ATHLETIC THERAPY
What is Athletic Therapy?
In Canada, a Certified Athletic Therapist is a healthcare practitioner specializing in the prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation of acute and chronic injuries affecting muscles, joints, bones, or the head, related to physical activity and sports. Athletic Therapy isn’t exclusively for athletes!
Athletic therapy can be helpful for the following:
Low back pain, foot pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, elbow pain, headaches, etc.
Traumatic injury related to physical activity or sport
Chronic pain that prevents you from being active or reaching your performance goals
Acute concussion care (assessment / management)
Long term concussion symptoms
Car accident rehabilitation (ICBC case)
Preventing injuries
Didié combines his expertise in Athletic Therapy with applied neurology, manual osteopathic techniques, rehabilitation exercises, and sport-specific programs to provide comprehensive care for everyone.
The Process
Your initial and follow-up appointments may include:
Head-to-Toe Movement Assessment: Provides a snapshot of your overall physical health, identifying potential contributors to your concerns.
Sport-Specific Movement Assessment: Analyzes how you move within the context of your physical activities.
Video Analysis: A detailed review of your gait, posture and key movements to pinpoint areas for improvement.
Neurological Network Assessment: Evaluates proprioception, vision, and the vestibular system as they relate to your specific concerns.
After the assessment: We’ll implement manual therapy interventions and develop a personalized plan, including therapeutic exercises, movement corrections, and performance-enhancing drills.
Concussion Management
Approximately 70% of concussions resolve on their own within a few days or weeks. However, early education, therapy, and activity modifications can significantly accelerate recovery and reduce the risk of long-term symptoms.
For those experiencing persistent symptoms beyond 2–3 weeks, a comprehensive approach may include:
Manual Therapy: Alleviates headaches by addressing neck-related dysfunction.
Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy: Targets balance and dizziness issues with specific exercises.
Vision Therapy: Enhances vision-related skills to address lingering symptoms.
Cervical Proprioception Rehabilitation: Improves neck proprioception to support better balance and reduce dizziness.
Nervous System Regulation Drills: Calms and down-regulates the nervous system to promote relaxation and recovery.
Tailored Cardiovascular Exercise: Optimizes brain recovery by increasing blood flow with carefully designed exercise plans.
Brain Recovery Diet: Supports healing with dietary recommendations to reduce inflammation and improve gut health.
This personalized, multi-faceted approach ensures that every aspect of your recovery is addressed, helping you regain full function and return to your activities with confidence.
